HAPPENINGS

The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer remains an active part of the community. We meet weekly for study and worship and remain active in the community with many annual events.

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

Join us weekly for Sunday School at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We are currently studying God’s word and our relationship with God, our Father, using the “Experiencing God” workbook by Henry Blackaby. All are invited to join in on this wonderful study. Coffee will be provided.

Our weekly worship service begins at 10:15 a.m. in the main Sanctuary. Join us for a meaningful, liturgical service full of word and music as we worship our Lord and Savior. On the first and third Sundays of each month, we worship with Word and Sacrament. On the second, fourth, and if we have a fifth Sunday, we worship with the Service of the Word. As we gather together for worship, please be mindful that the Coronavirus still presents many unknowns. Be considerate of each other’s space and remember to wash hands frequently (or use hand sanitizer), keep social distances of at least 6 feet and wear a mask.

During the Season of Lent (from Ash Wednesday through Holy Week), we gather on Wednesday evenings for a simple meal of soup and bread and a worship service as we observe the three R’s of the seasons – Repentance, Reflection and reconciliation.

ANNUAL EVENTS

Before COVID-19 dampened the ability to have in-person gatherings, the members of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer held many annual events that not only our members, but also the community at large, looked forward to each year. We look forward to gradually reinstating (as safety allows) many of our annual activities:

  • Chili Cook-off – usually held in early January, this event was an opportunity for fellowship and good food as the congregation’s wannabe chefs pitted their delectable stews against each other for the title of Best Chili. Tried and true favorites, as well as new concoctions competed for the most votes in the fun and festive fundraiser event.
  • Lenten Soup and Service – Held throughout the Lenten season each year on Wednesday evenings, we gather for supper of soup and bread and join in a prayer or worship service as we continue our Lenten journey toward the cross.
  • Easter potluck breakfast – We begin our Easter morning by gathering for a potluck breakfast at 8:30 a.m. before our Easter worship service begins at 10:15 a.m. All are welcome to join in. We just ask that you bring a dish to share.
  • Spring Yard Sale – Traditionally held around the end of May or beginning of June. This community wide yard sale offers shoppers a variety of great treasures as very reasonable prices.

  • Worship in the Park/Church Picnic – Each year as we “Rally Back to Worship,” we pack up the band and head to a local park to worship and praise, and of course, eat! Be on the lookout for our date and location to be announced, and make plans to join us for a good old-fashioned church worship and picnic.
  • Fall Festival/German Lunch – Traditionally held annually in October, this event features our handmade Schnitzel or Brat meal with German potato salad at a reasonable cost. Meals can be eaten in our festive Oktoberfest setting or taken to go.

  • Community-wide Lessons and Carols – An annual gathering of beautiful music, angelic voices, and hope-filled readings from the Bible, this event brings together choirs from many surrounding churches for a wonderful afternoon of carols and lessons.
  • Christmas Eve Worship Service (traditional) – Held at 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, this traditional candlelight service sets the mood for a wonderful evening of traditions with family and friends. Please plan to join us.
  • Christmas Eve Worship Service (German) – This Christmas Eve service is held at 6 p.m. The hymns are sung and the lessons read in German. This is a wonderful gathering for our community, and anyone who has ties to Germany.

Mark 16:15-18

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
